Baby it’s cold (and wet!) outside. And parents around Australia are currently making sure their tots stay warm and dry as they travel from A to B, all while we’re left getting drenched on.
Because we’re sick of constantly getting stuck in the rain (literally!), we did a little search-a-roo and found the best raincoats for mums this winter. Here’s what we found:
This lightweight jacket is designed specifically to keep you dry rather than warm, which is exactly what it does. Mum-of-two Mel was particularly a fan of the style.
“It’s a nice fit with tags that let you tailor it at the waist. I like the colour and the subtle army print too,” she says.
The jacket is designed to fit in your pocket, which is a clever idea for those on the go.
“It’s a handy feature but not one I think I would use much. I would only use it for quick trips outside or during the warmer months,” adds Mel.
We also found the best gumboots for kids. And the cult buy mums are going nuts over this winter.
RRP $34.95 from T.K. Maxx.
MARKS & SPENCER ANIMAL PRINT PACK AWAY PARKA
Everyone’s going crazy over animal print right now, and this women’s parka ticks all of the boxes for being on trend and reliable.
It’s also made with 50 per cent recycled fabric derived from plastic bottles, so you’ll be doing your bit for the environment too.
RRP $33 from Marks and Spencer
You can always rely on Kmart for delivering the bargain goods. But don’t underestimate this rain jacket – it might be plain in design but it does the trick.
“It fits really well – even over bulky jumpers or jackets – and I love the hooded neck on it.
This one is a little on the exxy side for a raincoat but if you’re after something that will promise to keep you dry and deliver, this is it. It comes in a range of designs and sizes – including the ¾ coat or uber-chic trench – both worth the investment.
I’ve personally been using this one and can confirm it’s perfect for mums or those on the go because it packs away into a small pouch, which I just throw into my bag for when the weather unexpectedly turns.
This double-breasted trench is a cult buy. Everyone has been loving the stylish design and reliability. It comes in classic shades of black, navy, beige, blush, bright blue, yellow and pink, so plenty to choose from if you’re a little fashionista fusspot.
“I love the fit of this trench, it’s a great mid-season look. The lining is lush, it’s tailored beautifully and the colour goes with everything,” Mel says. But there are a few negative points.
“It could do with a hood and is not really waterproof, more water resistant.”
RRP $107 from Marks and Spencer
If you’re after a piece that is specifically designed for wet weather, this one is it. Helly Hansen is known for it’s ‘technical apparel’ and this coat is not only lightweight, it is also completely waterproof.
The trench style means your outfit is not going to be screaming: “Look! I’m wearing a raincoat!” at school drop off.
This is your more traditional looking raincoat, so expect to stay dry while looking a little like the kids – except a little cooler.
“I’ve had this one for three years and I'm STILL in love with it,” says Claire. “It looks just like this one from the ASOS kids range.”
The coat has a PU coating all over it, so when it’s pouring, the water will just roll off you. The big hood will mean your hair will stay dry too. Added bonus.
